“Opening Ceremony: Wembley’s Parade of The Giants” is a vibrant, fictional parade of Wembley’s mythical giants. It draws from the mural’s unique position at a key entrance point, where each visitor’s arrival is treated as a special occasion. Inspired by the vast scale of the wall and the often memorable nature of visits to London Designer Outlet. The concept introduces a parade of mythical Giants, symbolic figures who embody the cultural legacy and celebratory spirit of Wembley. Echoing the grandeur of historic events like the 1948 Olympic Games, Live Aid, and Oasis 2025 reunion tour. The giants come together to form a representation of all that makes Wembley as we know it, coming to life through a playful digital activation on site.

Each Giant is adorned with subtle, playful references to Wembley’s iconic moments; such as friendship bracelets from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, a Live Aid hoodie or a football jersey. While their scale may suggest power or awe, these Giants are gentle guardians, representing collective memory, human emotion, and local identity. Together, they offer a prismatic, inclusive welcome to all who pass through, aligning with LDO’s values of inclusion, hospitality, and community through public art.

FUNGAL BRAIN proposes a thought experiment in interspecies communication where the objective is to reevaluate and redefine human relationship to the environment by shaping and testing alternative interspecies dynamics — in which the human agency does not dominate but rather exists in response to their surroundings.

In the wake of the collapse of capitalism and the catastrophic effects of climate change, fungi and microorganisms master a future landscape with their astonishing ability to react, learn and adapt to environmental change.

Within this experiment, human subject brainwaves and fungal bioelectric signals with slime mould growth patterns act as agents in shared decision-making and participate in the creation of reactive landscapes in the ruined space of a future forest represented by Hampstead Heath.

Artist-in-residence programme
Role in the team: Event Producer, Photographer, Technician
2024

The multidisciplinary art and design collective (alumni of Spatial Practices) are working on a programme combining music, sound, dance and live performance. The King’s Cross and Central Saint Martins Artist-in-Residence will culminate in “a monument for a moment”, a large-scale installation in Spring 2024, showcasing the talents of young people from across King’s Cross and Camden.

King’s Cross has a long history of young people self-organising and coming together through moments of creative individual and collective self-expression in public. The residency will pay tribute to the area’s alternative music heritage as home to the rave and clubbing scene and youth movements of the 1980s and 90s. King’s Cross became a global centre of innovation and creativity through the production of cutting-edge sounds and ‘free-parties,’ which combined the latest technologies with a D-I-Y approach, using whatever was at hand to transform empty derelict spaces into temporary magical, sensorial environments. The work will come to life through two moments in 2024.

In February, a dance challenge trail will weave together the organic emergence of dance groups around the estate with the legacy and present environment of King’s Cross.

In May 2024, the residency will culminate in a major public installation and series of performances by young artists, musicians and dancers from King’s Cross and the wider boroughs of Camden and Islington.

Led by The Decorators and delivered in collaboration with the King’s Cross-based social enterprise FishTank and students from CSM Spatial Practices, the project will temporarily unveil some of these hidden music histories of King’s Cross while showcasing the creativity of local young people today. It will build new collaborations between local youth organisations, Central Saint Martins and the King’s Cross estate, co-creating with young people to claim their place in public space as producers and playful users.

CSM MA Narrative Environments and MA Cities are co-producing ZERO, a 24-hour live marathon radio broadcast on 10 & 11 November, 2022, in collaboration with Ain Shams University Smart & Sustainable Cities Lab in Cairo for COP27 in Egypt. The British Council broadcast will explore futures for planetary cities, societies, and interspecies connections based on carbon drawdown, examining the implications for numbers (computation, calculation and redistribution) in these narratives. The broadcast will explore the ways in which public numeracy (the faculties of numbers, data, and measurement) can support the climate emergency. The point of the broadcast is to engage future generations in the conversation at COP27, which is typically dominated by adult leaders. The goal is to engage narratives around math, science, and data; rather than consider these as violent reductions, we can consider them as design tools for addressing who and what doesn’t get counted or valued within our systems.

The show will be co-broadcast live from universities in Cairo and London in collaboration with http://spatialradio.live and http://radioee.net. The show will also mark the launch of a new radio station at Ain Shams, sharing the tools of dialogue, listening, and radio technology with Cairo University students and youth.
